First why blog at all?
You should make a blog if you already enjoy writing because you have a lot of thoughts and you would like to share then with the world.
I knew I would want one long ago, so I made kimeiga.github.io/blog, a blog written with the Jekyll framework (a static site generator in Ruby) that took a long time to customize and set up but had been a long of fun to make and write on.
Problem with creating your own blog site from scratch:
I like that blog because I can customize everything about it. But I often get inspiration on the go, and I sometimes run into bugs with Jekyll as it is a complicated framework. I also have to find an image with every post for the theme I created on that site.
Sometimes I just wanna write.
So I thought, since I often get inspiration on the go, I’ll just find a free blogging service that had a nice app that I can use.
WordPress?
I tried WordPress but I didn’t like how there are ads on your site and you can’t get rid of them for free. Nothing against WordPress trying to keep itself free, but I like to avoid ads on anything I make if I can help it.
Ghost?
Couldn’t find a good free plan :’c…
Write.as?
Really neat idea to allow people to blog without an account and completely anonymously. But the app is not very feature rich, and the blogging platform itself doesn’t have much depth.
Blogger?
Then I tried Blogger. Apparently I’ve been a member since 2011! Back when I was “Tarin Miller” online.
I downloaded the app and it worked flawlessly although a little feature sparce.
I then downloaded the app Blogger Pro and it’s actually really good.
I like how in Blogger they’ve added a lot of new themes that actually look nice. I have a soft spot in my heart for the old Blogger themes as they remind me of web design back when it was easy because CSS was pretty limited and people didn’t expect much.
I want to use a dark theme for the sake of everyone’s eyes but the Soho pink theme caught my eye so I might try that one out again sometime haha.
It’s a pretty good experience so far.

Why should you make a blog with Blogger?
- Have thought that you want to write down while somewhere with only your phone
- Write it down in Blogger Pro (identical exclusive to writing it in a native blogging app)
- Tap “publish” and now it’s on your website, and is shareable.
Why not just use social media? Because here you own the website and it’s theme and have your own comments section powered by Google (where everyone has an account anyways). On social media people will notice you but it’s not the same experience as if they read it on your website with your theme and longform prose with images and text decoration etc.
You can always share your post to social media with a memorable snippet and a link to the rest of the article after it. It might help to include an image in the article so the link preview will have an image too.
Thanks for reading! Goodbye 💛
