When people ask you to do something that you don’t want to do, or at least something that you lean towards not doing, or something that maybe you might want to do, but it would just give you stress to do (like start a startup), consider if you really need to talk about it or not.
Maybe you can just say “ok sure” and a few other words and be done with that conversation, and nothing else will happen of it.
This happens all the time in life when you are in a conversation with someone and you understand that you clearly are not on the same page with someone and it gives you anxiety. I get this especially, because I really try to be on the same page with everyone, and I like to have everyone support me and my decisions.
But sometimes people are not in your position and don’t know what you’ve gone through and what options you’ve tried, and they might think they are just being helpful or looking out for your best interests (which is fine!).
In these situations it might make sense to just let people give you the advice they want you to hear, and you can listen to said advice, but you are in control of your own actions, your own beliefs, and you can do what you want. This means that you can follow the advice that you want, essentially picking and choosing what to follow and what not.
This is kind of in accordance with the theory that you are in control of your own emotions and feeling needless amounts of stress can be stopped or at least partially mitigated if you look at the source of the stress and just solve it in some way.
You can apply this by remembering that the advice (even strong advice) that you receive are all just suggestions and you are the arbiter of what you want to do, and thus you can just ignore what you don’t want to do and have it remain at that.
So yea just chill and do what you want.
